This small vessel is carved from fallen manitoba maple, harvested from the Seine River in Winnipeg during the winter months of 2023. Rotting and bug-bound, much of this tree remained where she lay.
Red-stain (Fusarium reticulatum)1 is a fungus that enables a red discoloration response to external stimuli. Its darker spots are bore holes--cleared and filled to highlight littler craft.

OBLATUM 07

This small vessel is carved from jack pine and walnut wood. The dark brown base is walnut and the mottled teal upper portion is blue-stained jack pine. Blue stain (Chlorociboria aeruginascens) is a fungus that creates the coloured pigment called xylindein.
I carved this single-stem vase as a birthday gift for a dear friend of mine (and her dog Ochi).
