H16 SOUL ARCHIVE

Academic, Undergraduate 3 Architecture Studio
Kailey Kroeker’s “A Violet Iris [In a Cut-away Bog]”

"An exploration of beauty and aesthetics (material, color, light, shadow, etc.) in an urban context, and an interrogation of what architecture can offer when we begin at the skin."

--Kroeker, studio brief

On the depths of the abyssal sea are artifacts forgotten by man, itself an archival library of rememberance. The remnants of littler souls; written word and captured instances. By way of some withering stump amidst a great wood, this project questions what is beautiful, what is important, and what lives and dies to be remembered.

Gloom. A dim refuge from life’s hum; in this do we remember what now is, or what is no longer?

Through the destruction of fire comes the creation of space. Entropy of the real and physical; the governance of domain. Sit now and be silent. Explore the realm of your mind in this space, for you are only here. From the depths of the darkness, a voice asks, "At what point does a solemn dark become sinister?"
